On Thursday, April 23, we held our fourth project discussion. In this session, we moved beyond general dialogue to brainstorm practical and concrete actions we can take to contribute to Japanese society.
For our “Giving Back project,” we proposed activities to help the local community. These include helping elderly people living alone with yard work, like weeding, or becoming “conversation partners” to spend time together. In addition,we also talked about ”cleaning up graffiti” in areas like Akihabara. We want to do activities that really contribute to Japan from our unique perspective as residents from overseas.
Next, we talked about how to help people understand Islam better. We want to find things in common between other religions and Islamic cultures. We also shared the plan to show the Islamic teaching of “doing good deeds” by holding events like soup kitchens and mosque tours.
Once again, people from different backgrounds met to think about what we can do as members of society in Japan .
